FSSAI Stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. The FSSAI Act was passed in 2006. FSSAI controls all the business activities that are related to food since then. FSSAI license is mandatory for all existing food business or any business who want to start food related activity. All the food manufacturers, suppliers, restaurants, wholesalers, retailers, distributors and any other businesses that are engaged in food related activity must acquire FSSAI Registration. Also the business has to follow FSSAI Guidelines, Rules and regulations. FSSAI ensures food safety to ensure the health and family welfare of common people.

This license is required for small scale businesses or startups which have an annual turnover of Rs.12lacs or below. Basic food license can be upgraded to state license on the basis of increase in sales graph. The minimum and maximum validity of this license is 1 to 5 years.
This license is required for mid-sized companies which have annual turnover of Rs.12 to 20 cr. The minimum and maximum validity of this license is 1 to 5 years.
This license is required for large scale businesses with the annual turnover of Rs.20cr or above. Business firms who work as government agencies or those firms whose activities does the import-export of food products requires this license. The minimum and maximum validity of this license is 1 to 5 years.
